In July 2015 Prof. Dr. Tobias Langenhan from the Physiological Institute at the Julius Maximilians University Würzburg has been awarded a Heisenberg Professorship for highly qualified scientists by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft. The appointment as Heisenberg Professor for “Physiology and Pathophysiology mechanoreceptive signaling pathways” was made in May 2016. The Principle Investigator of the subproject C3 studies the effect and impact of Adhesion G protein-coupled receptors, an extensive but largely misunderstood class of transmembrane receptors, which could be characterized for the first time by the work of Langenhan and colleagues as metabotrobic mechanosensors. In project C3, Prof. Langenhan focuses on the molecular mechanisms leading to the transmission of a mechanical stimulus into intracellular information through these receptors.
